Recession-Proof Formals

Times are tough for many couples and consequently the definition of a "dream" wedding is being reconstructed.  I've been receiving more and more messages from empty-pocketed brides asking for advice on how to make the most of low-to-no budget nuptials.  In particular, the most frantic are those from brides who don't have money to spend on wedding decor.  Their emails all reflect this one concern: "If I don't have any decorations, then what will the photographer take pictures of?"... to which I respond, "YOU!".  The photographer will simply focus on the happy couple and the special people you've chosen to be there.  So, one way to add interest to a newlywed-centered wedding album is unique formals.

If you're not going to have wedding decorations, then make sure to really have fun with your formals.  Don't take 200 photos posed in front of the same neutral background with only slight variations (head tilted left, head tilted right, holding bouquet, not holding bouquet, etc).  No!  Work with your location,  play with your new spouse, and have your photographer capture the personalities you both fell in love with.  And as always, I have a perfect example for you!  Eva & Matt had an intimate celebration in Newport, Rhode Island.  With only their lighthouse location and adorable selves to work with, here is photographic proof of the non-importance of decor in achieving fantastic wedding photos.

  1. I loved this wedding! And it's totally true - go nuts on the two of you and you'll remember what a good time you had more than the specifics of your details!

Please post your sugary-sweet comments here. As Mama Petticoat taught us, "If you don't have anything nice to say, don't say anything at all"... so all negative, mean, or irrelevant remarks will be deleted. Merci, beaucoup!
