Many couples' engagement shoots are inspired after time periods (i.e. the Renaissance, The Golden Era, WWII). But there's a right way and a wrong way to do period-themed shoots. The wrong way is to exaggerate the style of the era by dressing up in a Halloween-esque costume and accessories - the result will always look cheesy and overtly staged. The right way is to simply emulate the style (as opposed to copying it) by dressing in understated versions of the outfits worn during the period. You want to look more like a vintage version of yourself, and less like a caricature of a Vaudeville actor. So, take a cue from Kari Ann & Kyle's 1920s themed engagement shoot - a balance between a smidgeon of retro style and an era-appropriate backdrop is all you need:
